The first look that hit the Chanel fall '14 runway had all the makings of a Sunday-morning bodega run when you're in dire need of skim milk. It's your coziest, most hole-y sweats, running sneakers, and the statement coat from last night (because it's the one that's closest to reach). But, this ensemble was given the Karl Lagerfeld touch. And, suddenly the lazy (and often kinda crazy-looking) became chic.

Sure, we already know that the Chanel show crafted what's sure to be the fanciest supermarket ever, but the clothing that sashayed past bunches of kale also felt just as touch-in-cheek as a double-C cereal box. And, while the French fashion house always seems to stay true to certain silhouettes and specific pieces, this time it also went for baggy shapes, color clashing, and — as seen at the haute couture show, as well — trainers with everything.

Sure, we know this is not exactly the best representation of what real women wear every day, but Lagerfeld crafted such a thorough presentation that, like a good piece of theatre, it was not hard to suspend our disbelief. Candies covered jewelry, quilted bags came wrapped in cellophane (looking almost too similar to a ribeye), and shopping carts had chain straps. In short, it's the "everyday" world of our dreams. It's the mundane, if mundane also happened to be high fashion. Maybe we'll never be the kind of ladies who run out for groceries in tweed suits and pearls, but we may also never look at a checkout line the same way again either.

Now, THIS Is Why We Go To Paris Fashion Week

The Lanvin show was last on yesterday's Paris Fashion Week lineup, and it took a strong second wind for us to strut our jet-lagged selves up to the venue (in the dark, in heels, on cobblestone). We could see the crowd forming from down the block, and it was mostly lookers on attempting to glimpse the front row read
