Okay, so Chanel didn't commission a new No. 5 fragrance, but artist Genesis Breyer P-Orridge went ahead and made one anyway. Don't look for Blood Sacrifice at your local Saks; The name refers to a video work on view starting tomorrow (until March 7) at Moving Image for New York's mega art fair, the Armory Show. Genesis, an early post-punk electronic industrial music guy, fell in love with Lady Jane Breyer, thus beginning a heavy relationship that had both sexes undergo, among other things, surgeries to bring them closer to psychically becoming "one," and a "perfecting hermaphroditic state." While the project, entitled Pandrogreny, ostensibly dissolved when Jaye passed away in '07, they're collaborating beyond the grave in Blood Sacrifice, described as "a valentine to a love both lost and enduring." The clip shows two Chanel No. 5 perfume bottles containing real blood, the intact bottle has Breyer's, the second filled with Genesis’ blood from his/her breast implant. We wonder if Lady Gaga's blood and semen fragrance had its starting point here.
Blood Sacrifice is an edition of three. Each video comes in a box containing a portfolio of blood prints, as well a vial of Chanel No. 5 mixed with blood.
