Fruits and vegetables “are packed full of the same vitamins, minerals, and oils you might find in expensive beauty products but without the additives, preservatives, and irritating chemicals,” says Dr. Ellen Marmur, dermatologist and founder of Marmur Medical in NYC. Not only does whipping up treatments using raw foods offer a multitude of beauty benefits, it also costs a fraction of the price.
Instead of spending $30 on a luxe hair mask, mixing a few avocados with olive oil will cost you $5 and can result in shinier, silkier strands. “Everyone’s hair reacts differently to products,” says celeb stylist Jen Atkin. “But, with hair remedies found within your kitchen, experimenting with different ingredients is a safe and cost-effective way to look your best.”
