As we head into the final stretch of Jon Stewart's incredible 16-year residency as the host of The Daily Show, it's time for everyone to bid the Emmy-winning star adieu. Including President Barack Obama. It was announced via Twitter today that Tuesday, July 21, after the current hiatus, President Barack Obama will be on the show for his final time, to chat with Stewart. The term, "It's the end of an era," gets thrown around a lot, but this truly is the end of an era!
This will mark Obama's seventh appearance on the show, and the two brilliant men have built a pretty fantastic rapport with one another in that time. While the no-holds-barred Stewart has been accused of lobbing the occasional softball towards the POTUS during their visits, that hasn't always been the case. Sure, their conversations can be lighthearted and loose, but Stewart always makes sure to use the best of his time with Obama, covering everything from Benghazi to health care reform.
Obama was last on the show in 2012, right before his re-election, and their conversation was as entertaining as it was insightful. When you have a moment, make sure to watch both parts of that segment here:
The last meeting of these minds will probably— hopefully— be a mixture of tackling important current events (particularly the ongoing matters of race relations) and a general friendly discussion. Plus, considering both men are finishing up two important—albeit very different legacies—in the coming weeks and months, it'll be interesting to see if they both discuss their respective plans for the next phase of their careers and lives.
