It feels like ages since Carey Mulligan has been on our screens, but, boy, is she ever back. She's on Broadway in Skylight. She's starring opposite Matthias Schoenaerts in a film adaptation of Thomas Hardy's Far from the Madding Crowd. She's covering the May issue of Vogue.

Despite all this exposure, the British actress is careful to keep her private life private. She admires Marion Cotillard because "I don’t know anything about her, and I quite like that."

The same could be said of Mulligan, especially as it concerns her marriage to Mumford and Sons frontman Marcus Mumford. The actress seems to shrug off many of the questions about their partnership, but there's a good reason why.

"Marcus is the only thing that’s mine that I can keep totally away, so I try to," she tells writer Gaby Wood.

How lovely. Of course, Mulligan pal Sienna Miller, who attended the couple's "full of love" nuptials in 2012, is happy to fill in some of the blanks.

"They have chickens and a dog, and roasts and friends, jams by campfires," Miller says of her friends' "normalcy."

"It’s sort of idyllic. Marcus can headline Glastonbury and Carey can be nominated for however many Oscars, and then they come back to their farm, and they’re in big woolly jumpers and funny hats, raising piglets. It’s an amazing balance they’ve managed to strike. I can’t wait for a little baby to come along,” she said. Miller's partner, actor Tom Sturridge, agrees.

“It’s [the marriage] a very special thing," he says. "It’s not often talked about what a wonderful feeling it is to see someone that you care about love and be loved.”

Okay, swoon. We're happy to leave the Mulligan/Mumfords be, but that doesn't mean we're not secretly admiring them from afar.

For more of Mulligan's interview and her Mikael Jansson-shot spread with costar Matthias Schoenaerts, keep reading.
