The Sunday raid reportedly took place in the Nigerian village of Gumsuri, according to a security source and resident. Boko Haram has not come forward to claim responsibility, but Reuters notes the incident "bore the hallmarks" of previous attacks. The April abduction took place in Chibok, which is approximately 15 miles from Gumsuri.
Boko Haram roughly translates to "Western education is sinful," and the group rose to international infamy when it kidnapped 276 school girls, provoking the Bring Back Our Girls campaign. Despite all the media attention this garnered, the Nigerian government has been unable to prevent further violence. Boko Haram has continued to operate in Northern Nigeria more or less with impunity.
This is a developing story.
