On Wednesday, Chrissy Teigen tweeted: "active shooting in Canada, or as we call it in america, wednesday." She followed up with, "That's not a joke. It is a fact." When the negative reactions started to pour in, Teigen tweeted, "Sorry you don't understand that is a knock at America and our issues with gun control. No one is minimizing the Ottawa shooting."
Some people interpreted that as an apology, but Teigen stood her ground. "I'm not apologizing. If you take it wrong, that is your fault," she wrote. The negative responses continued and became overwhelming. Teigen tweeted a screenshot of her replies, which included "ROT IN HELL BITCH." and "Sorry Canada. Our hollywood elites & its dumb models are idiots. wish ISIS would give Chrissy a permanent haircut."

Yeah. Whatever happened to the idea that if you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all?
The next morning, Teigen sent out a tentative tweet asking if her mentions were safe yet. But, the hate was still pouring in. Teigen tried to be reasonable, pointing out that people were just looking to get angry at something. She said they were missing the "simplicity of the original tweet."
The entire situation finally came to a head when Teigen (and her husband, John Legend) received death threats. This proved to be the last straw, and Teigen tweeted to say she was leaving.
Meanwhile, John Legend defended his wife by blocking the trolls.
Teigen has yet to Instagram anything since her final tweet.
