Come hibernation season, many people will let their hair grow out for a little extra warmth. James Franco, however, is not one of those people.
Late last night, the actor-turned-everything posted a photo to his Instagram, teasing big things to come. And Francophiles around the world double-tapped to keep tabs on his hair, thanks to the warning beneath the Instagram. "Say Goodbye to this hair...You'll see. Tomorrow." Ominous.

Then, this evening, he held true to his Insta-promise and began his transformation.

As many followers predicted, James Franco shaved it all off — literally leaving his dome exposed to the coming autumnal elements. For those that were left, ahem, scratching their heads and wondering why, he made sure to clarify that this is for his film adaptation of Steve Erickson's novel Zeroville. The dark comedy centers around a movie buff's adventures in the film industry. No word as to whether Director James Franco is casting Actor James Franco in the movie. But, all signs point to yes, considering his recent blonde moment. Plus, you know, it would just be so...meta.

And, just when you thought Franco was pulling some performance art stunt, he reminded his devotees that he did, in fact, shave his head. But, Bald Franco didn't stop there. Oh no. He transformed his head into a canvas.

Now, Franco is bald, bold, and Taylor'd — Elizabeth Taylor'd. His dome now sports a tattoo of the late actress and Montgomery Clift. It's painted on, of course, because true art washes away and nothing ever lasts, anyway.
