A Metro-North train bound for Grand Central derailed early this morning on the Hudson Line. The accident has left four dead and 67 injured, according to reports quoted by
The New York Times. The derailment occurred in the Bronx on the banks of the Hudson River; the train was heading to Manhattan from Poughkeepsie, NY. Officials on the scene say this is the worst accident they've ever witnessed on this line.
Some outlets are reporting that the train was traveling faster than normal, though an official cause is yet to be confirmed. The New York Daily News has terrifying accounts from a few passengers who survived the incident, several of whom also speculated that the train was moving at an unusually high speed. Images show that the train narrowly missed even further tragedy, coming to a stop just feet from the water's edge.
