It's clear from all the troubling news stories that their needs to be a coalition protecting models and advocating for better child labor laws. Now, there's a bill that needs one more nod of approval from Governor Cuomo, which would extend the law that currently protects child performers to include models under the age of 18. Model Alliance held an informational meeting with supermodel Anne V on hand as speaker last week, to open discussion on how the law would affect young models. In addition to the male attention — Anne says, "I went from being 16 and never been kissed to men paying attention to me when I started modeling” — there was also the access to nightclubs and liquor, plus the added pressure to lose weight once her body started changing. Ultimately, though, Anne's advice was clear and direct to models just starting out in the biz: “You need to have a voice because you’re not going to last in this business just being stupid.” Indeed, it seems the alliance and bill will allow them to have just that.
