These Surprising Red-Carpet BFFs Will Melt Your Heart

Sure, everyone seems "happy" to see each other on a red carpet. There are smiles, there are awkward hugs. But that's not what this slideshow is about.
These are moments of pure, unadulterated joy — A-list friends who won't let the cameras get in the way of a pat on the head, ill-repressed laughter, or a happy reunion. Our only regret is that we couldn't be the third wheel on a few of these. They might call it a photobomb, or possibly harassment — we'd just call it love.

Tom Hanks & Julia Roberts
These two hanging out is the friendship equivalent of a cronut: It sounds impossibly good, and we'd pay insane amounts to participate.

Sharon Stone & David Lynch
Oh, don't worry: It's just Sharon Stone hanging out with David Lynch because the world is awesome.

Bruce Willis & Paul Reiser
Only good friends of Bruce Willis can give his head a good luck rub, because we hear it grants unlimited wishes.

Rainn Wilson & Ellen Page
Either these two are very close, or she's a benign growth he's just discovered and is considering seeking medical attention about.

Natalie Portman & Jake Gyllenhaal
Natalie really didn't want to lose it at Jake's joke, but when he started to laugh, she couldn't handle it anymore. This, folks, is what it means to have a good time.

Christian Slater & Bradley Cooper
How are these two friends? What do they talk about? Hairlines? Breaking hearts? Perfecting the five-o-clock shadow?

Seth Green & Dax Shepard
The only problem with this picture is that we aren't inserted in the middle of this love-fest, getting our snuggle on with Dax and Seth.

He's all like, "this guy!" And then she's all like, "I know, right?!"

Julianne Moore & Meryl Streep
It's okay, girl. Our faces would be permanently stuck in that joyous pose if we met Meryl, too.

Naomi Campbell & Grace Jones
There is nothing, nothing more fabulously fierce than these two together. Nothing.

Carey Mulligan & Justin Timberlake
We normally reserve that facial expression for viewings of JT's SNL skits, but apparently, he's just as funny in person.

Penelope Cruz & Madonna
A good friend always makes sure you have a drink in your hand...or your face.

Kerry Washington & Amy Adams
These two seem like a perfect match — and apparently they've been hanging out since way back in 2006!

Lena Dunham & Claire Danes
Let's just hope they're talking about a new Homeland-meets-Girls show featuring a manic former FBI agent struggling to make it as a writer in Brooklyn, while living with an accused terrorist.

Madonna & Gwyneth Paltrow
As two examples of visible perfectionism, Madge and Gwynnie probably spend most of their time on ab workouts and fighting over whether or not your cashmere sweater should have glitter woven into it.

Ana Gasteyer & Rachel Dratch
While we are a little more accustomed to seeing besties Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, we love these less-obsessed-over SNL alums equally. Rachel Dratch is just listening in to her pal Ana Gasteyer's bump noises.

Emma Watson, J.K. Rowling, & Rupert Grint
Considering they worked on seven blockbuster movies together, it's no surprise that these Potter pals would have a strong bond — and shed a few tears at the premiere of the last in the series.

Goldie Hawn & Steve Martin
We imagine that Ms. Hawn pretty much stays at this energy level 24/7, but luckily she's found someone who's happy to deal with it.

Rose McGowan & Rosario Dawson
We can't really vouch for their outfits (hey, it was 2007), but the sheer joy of the sneak attack from McGowan warms us to the core.

Helen Mirren & Tilda Swinton
Rumor has it these two don't actually speak to one another, but just telepathically communicate using high-frequency brain waves and advanced forms of emotional transference.

Liv Tyler & Orlando Bloom
Our hearts! They ache. Two elves bonded together by fictional immortality laughing as us mere (wo)men and our silly ways.

A timeless and classic bond for timeless and classic people.

Imagine the über-intellectual conversations had between these two. Modern day Tinseltown philosophers, right here folks.

There's nothing quite like good 'ole sibling love, eh?

Keanu Reeves & Jada Pinkett Smith
Look at them giggling. Keanu probably made a sassy remark, pushed his silky ravens mane back while Smith let out a guttural guffaw. He is The One, after all.
