OK, now we're officially confused. A while back we floated the idea that Naomi Campbell was in a wheelchair due to injuries sustained during an elephant polo match. That match, as it transpires, didn't actually happen.
More recently, reports emerged that the supe had been left with a torn ligament after being violently robbed in Paris. The 42-year-old was allegedly hailing a taxi when she was, "knocked over and robbed," according the New York Post. Precise details about what exactly was stolen were unclear, but a source told the publication that, "the assailant had been watching her, casing her out, and waited for a moment to strike when she was alone." It was also reported that after the assault, the model's billionaire boyfriend, Vladimir Doronin, whisked her off to Colorado where she was treated by a specialist surgeon and upped her personal security. Awful but more reasonable than elephant polo, yes?

Now, things are getting even more complicated. The original story said that Campbell reported the mugging to the French police, but the
Daily Mail
is now saying that there is no record of it. Hmph. Apparently, a member of the police staff told the newspaper, “A high profile celebrity being attacked in Paris would be something everybody remembers. If such a serious crime had taken place then a criminal enquiry would have started by now —especially if the victim ended up in a wheelchair.” Curiouser and curiouser.
Of course, mugging and elephant polo aside, there are many alternate scenarios that could have led to Naomi sustaining this injury. Perhaps she lost a kick-boxing match to Tyra Banks or an attempt at staircase sledding — a la Home Alone — in her new mansion went awry. Maybe a former assistant enacted a horrible revenge.
