Sunshine is finally here, bringing with it an abundance of fresh trends to take your wardrobe into SS18. From romantic florals to contemporary-cool co-ords via colour-drenching tones and statement-making accessories, NET-A-PORTER plays host to the most exciting new brands and heritage houses, with a surplus of fresh-from-the-catwalk trends to suit every occasion in your summer calendar. Setting you up for the season’s sun-soaked garden parties, weekend getaways or perhaps that destination wedding, we shot our favourite pieces from the retailer’s summer edit at London’s luscious Kew Gardens.

MODERN BOTANY

Florals get a modern update this summer, with bold botanics sitting prettily on light, white fabrics, bringing a contemporary romance to the season. This vintage-inspired piece from Israeli designer Dodo Bar Or is perfect for a countryside wedding when worn alone, or layered over a T-shirt like this classic Saint Laurent one for a more casual soiree.

To toughen up the hyper-sweetness of floral prints, we’re teaming them with statement-making accessories. Nanushka, the street-style favourite from Sandra Sandor, has created the perfect belt bag, which we’re slinging across our front as well as around our waist. Add Fendi’s faux fur slides for a nod to the ‘90s monogrammed trend and you have yourself a thoroughly modern work party get-up.

TAKE TWO

If you want to switch up your wardrobe and steer clear of dresses for summer, take note of the co-ord, coming in a plethora of prints, cuts and colours this season. Zimmermann proves that neutrals are far from boring with its striped Bardot crop and matching wide-legged trousers, loose enough to keep cool in the heat and dance the night away. The ruffled detail and puckered waist keep things interesting, and worn with mules with an architectural heel, it’s the ideal alt-occasion outfit for the dress-averse.

Alternatively, tap into the Princess Diana-inspired ‘80s trend with Lisa Marie’s monochrome polka dot co-ord. Bringing a host of summer’s trends together, thanks to its additional statement puffed shoulder, it’s feminine without being sickly sweet – to add even more style, team with bold jewellery such as Ariana Boussard-Reifel’s statement earrings. This look is as perfect for a summer BBQ as a pavement-pounding city break.

FRILLS & THRILLS

The beauty of ruffles is that there’s no one way to wear them: layered, waterfall and hemline are all easy wins, bringing volume and drama to an otherwise safe style. Gingham has been our go-to print for several summers now, but we’re refreshing the trend for long hot weekends with the season’s hero accessories. A hold-the-essentials utility belt bag brings the look into 2018, while satin mules up the ante for an evening ‘do.

Colour-drenching, too, is big news for summer; we’re taking our favourite shade and styling it top-to-toe in every tone going - Alice McCall’s candyfloss pink jumpsuit looks gorgeous with a dusky blouse from Preen worn underneath. Wedding guest attire nailed.
