Zac Posen Does Chic (and Cheap!) Sportswear for Saks

When one thinks of Zac Posen, a distinct picture comes to mind—namely one of lavish evening gowns delineated by miles of luxe ruffles and jeweled panels, and chic cocktail dresses that become works of art on those with the income to flaunt them. For most of America, a Zac Posen label in something of a pipe dream. But no longer will we lack! The young designer, who claims that he can bust out dresses with his eyes closed, announced the birth of his "new identity" through a lower-priced sportswear line for Saks Fifth Avenue. Previews of the line (which is somewhat unfortunately named "Z Spoke") reveal a clean, high-fashion rendition of basic silhouettes, with a few twists in the form of asymmetrical style lines and cut-outs with defined piping detail. Believe it or not, the line is actually street-inspired, but with Zac Posen's magic touch, it becomes a luxury sportswear genre unto itself. (WWD)
