What To Wear To Oakland’s Newest Booze-And-Bocce Hotspot

Make Westing photo by Molly DeCoudreaux
Bocce and booze? Definitely not your typical combo, but that’s precisely what goes down at Uptown Oakland’s newest hotspot, Make Westing, which just threw open its doors this week. The brainchild of two Oakland natives—designed by a duo from NYC (whose bragging rights include a sandwich shop inside of the A.C.E. Hotel and working at smokin’-hot design firm Hecho)—the sprawling, lived-in space that’s named after a Jack London quote includes chalkboard-black walls, reclaimed-steel tables, and the aforementioned bocce court tucked away in the corner. With $8 cocktail creations helmed by Caroline Pagel of North Berkeley’s Sea Salt and eight beers (many local) on tap, plus a small bar menu with creative artisanal treats on it, this is definitely the sort of place you could happily get lost in for a few hours. Just how should you dress to get your drink and game on? Take a look at our simple, 5-ingredient guide to creating the perfect fashionable and functional outfit, below.
Make Westing, 1741 Telegraph Avenue (at 18th Street), Oakland; 510-251-1400.
