While Union Square doesn't seem like a place where you want to hang out after hours, there's one spot in the area that's always fascinated us. And that'd be romantic cocktail den, the Burritt Room, nestled on the second floor of the Crescent Hotel, which has now been renamed the Mystic Hotel and overhauled by restauranteur and hotelier Charlie Palmer. Luckily, Palmer is leaving the Burritt Room alone, but making it twice as nice by adding an adjoining eatery in the same vein, dubbed the Burritt Tavern, and helmed by chef Ashley Weaver.

Come for the stiff artisanal drinks and fresh Tomales Bay oysters, and stay for the speakeasy-inspired curtained booths that recall the Victorian-era property's past.
