Move Over, Eastern Market: There’s A New Foodie Mecca In Town

1
It's no secret that DMVers take their food seriously — from the plethora of top-notch restos to an abundance of farmers' markets, the options for full-on yumminess are endless. And now, a new (and major) player is joining the grub game: Union Market, set to open this weekend, will be a year-round source for artisanal food from more than 40 local vendors. The market will feature eats from the likes of Righteous Cheese, Lyon Bakery, Oh! Pickles, DC Empanadas, and more.
And the best part? They're capping off the inaugural weekend on Sunday with the second installment of DC Scoop, an annual ice-cream tasting event and competition. You'll get three free sample tickets just for showing up, and you can even vote on your favorite tasty treat.

Union Market will be open on weekends through November; come December, they'll expand to peddling gourmet goodies six days a week. If all you can think about now is free ice cream (or maybe that's just us?), head over on Sunday afternoon to get your fill.
When: Fridays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturdays and Sundays, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. DC Scoop is on Sunday, September 9, from 1-4 p.m.
Where: Union Market, 1309 5th Street NE; no phone.
