Trouble: Taylor Swift Gets Deep, Gritty, And Grungy In New Video

Oh, Taylor. You're like the beautiful, talented, kooky kid sister we always wanted. So, when you drop a video like "I Knew You Were Trouble," all we can do is roll our eyes and smile to ourselves, knowing that one day you will look back on this and roll your eyes even harder.
Presented in an aspect ratio wider than most films (we're talking CinemaScope quality), Swift's new vid starts out with a two-minute-long soliloquy backed by desert scenes, which are almost as absurd and pretentious as the similarly preposterous intro to Lana Del Ray's "Ride"

"I knew his world moved too fast and burned too bright..but, I just thought, how can the devil be pulling you toward someone who...looks so much like an angel when he smiles at you." Oh, really? But that's not the weirdest thing: When the deep, moody, spoken-word jam abruptly gives way to Swift's peppy, bombastic song, our brains sort of broke.
All kidding aside, we sort of dig Swift's grungy look here. Her chunky, battered ombré hairdo (or is that a wig?) kind of works and her leather pants, tank tops, and lanky, muscle-free hipster BF suit her in some odd way, even if it does feel a little forced.
Maybe she's taking tips from Miley's edgy new look, but there's some serious cognitive dissonance here. Sleazy motels? Druggy club scenes? Bar fights? Maybe we're just not ready, but we're also not quite buying it. (MTV)
