Admit it: You obsessively read J.Crew's "Looks We Love" feature each and every time not only for product eye candy (Those patterned pants! Those candy-colored bags!), but also styling hints on how to get the look. Because J.Crew is awesome, most of the styling suggestions are free or can be done on a budget — and one of our favorites from this batch is a way to take the stuffiness out of a wide-brimmed sun hat.
Not totally into those $4.99 straw hats you find in the drugstore next to the plastic lawn chairs? Make them a whole lot more manageable with J.Crew fashion director and head stylist Gayle's suggestion: "Trim down a wide straw hat for a raw-edged brim that's one of a kind." The end result is something slightly Huckleberry Finn, but in a Jane Birken sort of way (it helps to wear yours with delicate summer dresses instead of — say — tattered overalls). Genius!
