Uptown Becomes Downtown As Celebs/Scenesters Flee Sandy’s Dead Zone

The television — should you have power — shows us cars destroyed, houses leveled, entire communities wrecked, millions in the dark, and lives pushed to their limits. But somewhere deep in the reptilian center of your brain you're asking yourself, "The stars! My God, where are the stars!" (If you can't tell we're being sarcastic, we promise we are.) Well, the New York Post, as is their want, was happy to supply us with a little primer on where the city's most glamorous refugees have fled in the storm's wake.
Seems The Mark at West 77th Street has become the center of celeb activity, what with folks like Emma Stone, Jonah Hill, Vladimir Restoin Roitfeld (and mom Carine Roitfeld), Marc Jacobs, Helena Christensen, Russell Crowe, Kelly Ripa, Naomi Watts, husband, Liev Schreiber, and Anna Wintour (!) herself either checking in or availing themselves of the Jean-Georges Vongerichten-helmed restaurant and trippy bar. Obviously, it's the spot to recharge your phone and get a hot shower.

Meanwhile, our own tipsters tell us that the iconic Carlyle Hotel, one block down on East 76th Street, has gone from being Woody Allen's haunt of choice to a regular Boom Boom Room North, with with Johan Lindeberg, Waris, Derek Blasberg, Jessica Stam, and many other fashion folk fleeing the downtown darkness for the bastion of old-world elegance (hello, piano bar). Even SJP is apparently at the Plaza Athénée. Looks like, for the moment, NYC's swagger has moved to Manhattan's high-numbered streets — at least until ConEd gets the lights back on.
. Now that you know where to grab a drink with the power crowd, we hope you're ready to go back to thinking about the Jersey Shore and donating to the Red Cross.
