The Annernberg Space for Photography's website includes a disclaimer to visitors of the Who Shot Rock & Roll art exhibit, opening today to the public. In bolded text it warns: "Please be aware that some of the photographs and films in Who Shot Rock & Roll contain graphic imagery and language — including drug use, nudity, profanity, sexual content, and violence." Well, that's rock and roll for you, baby!
The L.A. exhibit features 166 prints from photographers such as Dennis Hopper, Bob Gruen, Diane Arbus, Lynn Goldsmith, David LaChapelle, Ryan McGinley, and more, as well as an original and exclusive documentary that explores the unique power and role of photography — and its adventuresome camera wielders — in the creation and explosion of musical icons.

Photographs of John Lennon in his famed New York City cut-off tee, Dylan besieged by frenzied fans, Tupac Shakur's noir tattoos, plus prints of Elvis, Sonic Youth, Tina Turner, Radiohead, and more will be displayed, and the effects that the iconic images have had on music, fandom, and culture itself will be explored.
