No terrible 10s for Opening Ceremony, which recently celebrated a decade in the biz with a Sunday rager that seemed like there were 5,000 people, but wasn't a total shit show. That's a hard feat to pull off, but somehow it worked — helmed by the indomitable Humberto Leon and Carol Lim, NYC club kids of yore were reborn, Svedka cocktails in hand. Webster Hall, not usually the bastion of chic, was transformed into a string of separate rooms, each representing iconic New York parties of the last decade (of course): They were all there, including Club Luxx, Misshapes, Ghe20 Goth1k, Smiths Sway Night + The Hole, Clubber Down Disco, and 1992 with a performance by Lil’ Kim.
On the second floor, things were getting sweaty before LK's big reappearance. No wonder, as the DJ was playing the best. tunes.ever! Biggie, Ashanti, 50 Cent, Missy... we literally wish we could bring the soundtrack everywhere. Of course, everyone's dance moves went into overdrive with the entrance of the Notorious K.I.M., who — surrounded by gyrating dancers — went old-school bling (decked out in thousands of blinding crystals), and played an even more old-school set. Yep, "How Many Licks."
While the epicness ended at 4 a.m., by 3, we were so tired from the boogie down-ing that we had to depart, Keith Haring sex toy in hand (we're not exactly sure what it's for, but we kinda don't wanna know), to
stumble walk home, surrounded by a gaggle of club kids who reminded us that the golden age isn't quite over. Yes, our thighs literally hurt the next day, but really, we couldn't miss a birthday party for an old friend.
