This Is Our Jam Premieres: Only You, “Applying Myself”

ly-you
“I can’t feel anything,” sings Only You front woman Rachel Fannan over the opening chords of “Applying Myself,” but the bright guitar sounds anything but dejected. Mixing early ‘60s surf rock with jangly garage pop, Fannan’s new band — following the breakup of San Francisco psych outfit Sleepy Suns — is loaded with nostalgic flair.
“I’m dreaming with the bottle / I’m dreaming with the pills” she continues, before throwing in a rockabilly twist and some whoa-oh-ohs for good measure. Only You plainly realizes that the best way to shake off the blues is to do it literally. Watch out for the new Applying Myself / Love Is Making Me Tired 7", out now on White Iris Records.
