They've got unwavering dedication, record-breaking skills, and well-defined muscles. But, if six packs and Wheaties boxes haven't give us enough professional-athlete envy, Nike's new Olympic wares and uniforms should definitely do the trick.
The bright red USA Track and Field uniforms, unveiled yesterday, are made from recycled plastic bottles, and — get this — actually make athletes faster. Utilizing aerodynamic technology and results from over 1,000 hours of wind-tunnel testing, the new collection is the fastest Nike uniform of all time — and looks pretty darn good, too.
Since these Olympians aren't always sprinting around the track on their path to gold, Nike also created three different outfits, complete with ultra-lightweight shoes, for American athletes to wear when they (fingers crossed!) hit the medal stands. From bombers inspired by classic letterman jackets to sleek black suede high-tops that'll make you say "Isabel Marant who?," these looks make the glory of winning just a little more special. And, for a double dose of hometown glory, Nike hid secret messages inside the pieces for extra patriotic oomph, such as "Land of The Free, Home of The Brave" inscribed on inner shoe soles and 50 perforations on the back of each windbreaker, (representing each state, in case that wasn't totally clear).
We're not sure who will be making it to the top of the podium at the London '12 games later this summer, but we are sure of one thing: These are some of the dopest warm-ups we've ever seen. Dash on over to give them a proper look.
