Fashion Stylist Ni’ma Ford On Needing A Stylist For Herself

1_NimaFord
Ni'ma Ford, Fashion Stylist
Ni'ma Ford may be a fashion stylist, but that doesn't mean she can always put together creative outfits in a snap. Even she admits to needing a little help sometimes! But, if you ask us, it looks like Ford is doing pretty well for herself. The stylist, who also moonlights as a model, hails from White Plains, NY, and cut her teeth at Z!NK Magazine before she went out on her own to style for mags like Hellion, CHAOS, PLUSHNYLON, and more. Her résumé is indeed impressive, but her look is what got our attention.
Ford is like a female Macklemore, constantly scouring vintage stores and thrift shops for luxury pieces. Don't expect her to wear a designer T-shirt, though. Ford's style theme song is Kanye West's "Can't Tell Me Nothing," and you'll definitely see why below.

My style in six words or less:
"A vivid, vintage variety."

My constant source of style inspiration:
"Definitely my mother and grandmother. When I get dressed, sometimes I ask myself, 'How would my grandmother wear this?'"

The dressing difficulties I've had to overcome:
"Like any fashionista, there are days where I can’t find anything desirable to wear. Sometimes even a stylist wishes they had a stylist."

My definitive summer go-to outfit:
"I have a '70s wedding dress I love to wear. It’s long with a beautiful, lace neckline."

My most surprising, out-of-left-field fashion find:

"It’s great when I go to small, mom-and-pop thrift stores and find luxury, designer pieces. I’m always curious: 'Who’s the woman who would want to give these awesome items up?' I've found a fur coat, Givenchy and Fendi earrings, and Gianni Versace sweater — all under $20."

I could never, ever part with:
"My Christian Lacroix hot-pink, bolero jacket I found for only six dollars."

If I were 80 years old today:
"I will always have a love for vintage; my style can only enhance over time. I can picture myself wearing a printed, silk gown with a high turban and tons of accessories — glamorous like the beautiful women in Advanced Style."
