What Will The New National Mall Look Like? Weigh In On 10 Potential Makeovers

national-mallslide
If you've seen the National Mall lately, you know it's looking a little — how do we say it? — unkempt. Just in time, the Trust for the National Mall is hosting a design competition to give the once-gorgeous stretch of greenery a much-needed facelift, and the race was whittled down to 10 finalists back in December.
This week, the Trust revealed the finalists' designs for the renovation project, and some of these are pretty awesome — think underground pavilions, labyrinthine gardens, sweeping amphitheaters, and ultra-modern cafes. You can see the renderings in person at the Smithsonian Castle and the National Museum of American History; if you can't swing a visit, you can check them out on the competition's official website and leave your thoughts for the jury.
The restoration will cost an estimated $700 million — which is pretty pricey, so it's safe to say we want the most bang for our buck. Check out the proposals and weigh in on this real-life version of Mall Madness. (Arch Daily)
