If you're tired of seeing all your fast-fashion baubles on every single other person riding the Red Line, we've got a flea-market find that'll knock your mass-produced socks off. On Sunday, Mount Pleasant hosts this summer's can't-miss open-air bonanza, Make It Mount Pleasant, a feel-good festival highlighting curated vintage collections, ultra-cool DJs, and local vendors selling their own quirky handmade goods.
Ever yearned for a wax-printed bow tie? Neither have we. But if we found one we loved, like the handcrafted versions from Alexandria designer Jennifer Darlington of J-Darling Designs, you bet we'd swipe that — along with her super-sassy headbands and skirts. Same goes for the so-unique wares from Voyo Woo, an artist who snips paper into figurines and garlands that put elementary-school snowflakes to shame. But, the artistic genius doesn't stop there: Beyond the rad local designs, the street will be lined with sidewalk sales from neighborhood shops and bumping with the beats of DJs and live bands spanning the musical spectrum. We're talking everything from the apocalyptic post-punk of Dangerosa to Latin/reggae group Kickoman. Could we ask for a better day to celebrate all things local to the District?
