The Latest Trend In Cocktails Is Here

It goes by many names. You’ll see it as “white lightning,” “white dog,” or — most infamously — “moonshine.” It’s whiskey straight from the still, and though it may conjure up images of bootleggers and other unsavory types, there’s no question that clear, formerly illicit hooch is having a moment.
The high-proof spirit may have been born in the backwoods stills of Appalachia, but today it sits comfortably (and legally) on the shelves of many a liquor store. With moonshine enjoying its newfound legitimacy, we’ve been wanting to try it ourselves.
The stuff isn’t exactly known for being sippable, nor is it in possession of any real flavor of its own (unless you count burning as a flavor). But, the thing is, moonshine's supposed flaws are what make it perfect for cocktails. Having no oaky, smoky, or spicy notes — but plenty of bite — white whiskey is a perfect base for cocktails that highlight the flavors of seasonal, summery fruit.

Backyard Pineapple Slush

2. Spoon a tablespoon or two of Maraschino liquid into a wine or hurricane glass.
3. Slowly pour the slush over the liquid and watch as the deep red cherry juice swirls through the frosty beverage.
