Urban Outfitters Debuts Mitt Romney Tees, Conservative Hipsters Rejoice

new urban romney
In a not-at-all-surprising turn of (current) events, Mitt Romney became the official Republican nominee for the presidency, as of yesterday. Never one to be stuck behind on the times (unless, of course, it’s in a hip, vintage way), Urban Outfitters debuted a number of Mitt Romney tees, featuring slogans such as “Mitt is the Shit” and “2 Legit 2 Mitt.” Get it? It rhymes.
Now, if you can think back to the days of 2008 (yes, a whole four years ago), you might recall Urban Outfitters stocking their shelves with merch for a certain other Presidential candidate. The brand sold everything from Obama posters to tees featuring slogans like “Obama for Yo Mama” and, as a result, pretty much became the go-to spot for twentysomethings looking to — literally — voice their political opinions on their chests.
Not to bring up the Republican elephant in the room, but we have to ask: Is Urban hoping to make inroads with young Romney supporters or is this just another ironic tee from the store’s already impressive array of kitschy items? We’re not entirely sure what Urban’s goal is, here (beyond selling clothes, duh), but the image of liberal and conservative shoppers buying pun-covered graphic tees side by side is sort of heartwarming, dontchya think?
