Here’s How Often Millennial Women Have Sex

Just how much sex do millennial women have these days? Well, according to a new survey from Cosmo, the numbers aren't too shabby — and they may play into other areas of our lives. For starters, 60% of the sample (more than 750 women between the ages of 18 and 34) reported having sex at least once per week. About a quarter of women said they had met their partners online, while another 37% met when out on the town. But traditional gender roles still take hold: Only 14% of women said they would make the first move if they saw someone attractive. Of course, because women surveyed were reporting on their own lives, they could have been exaggerating their numbers — but we'd like to trust them on this one. But Cosmo wasn't just interested in the sex. The survey also looked at the relationships said sex occurs within. A sizable 28% of respondents said they were single and another 4% said they were casually dating. But a third of respondents said they were married, a quarter were in a serious relationship, and another 7% were engaged. This finding is particularly interesting in light of recent Gallup statistics, which suggested that way more of us — 64% of millennials — weren't married or living with a partner. So it's clear that there's some gray area in between "romantically spending time together" and "romantically sharing rent" that neither of these measures can capture. And although 70% of women in the Cosmo survey said they wanted to be married eventually (ideally at age 29), marriage rates for people in their 20s have been steadily declining for the past decade or so. Today, according to a Pew analysis, about 20% of people over the age of 25 in the U.S. have never been married. And per Pew's statistics-based projections, the report suggests that 25% of those between 25 and 34 will probably never go on to be married. So even if your marriage dreams stay dreams, you certainly won't be the only one.
