A First Look At Lemlem Resort ’13, Bring On The Wanderlust

Oh, Mother Nauture. How you tease us. In the chilly months, you have us fantasizing about the sun beating down our necks, but the second it actually happens, it's way more sweaty than sultry. When the temperatures fail to stop climbing, finding the right outfit suddenly becomes a daily stress. However, one look at the Lemlem resort '13 collection, and we knew we had found our dream outfits to solve this dilemma.
With its official launch — and Lemlem debut — on Moda Operandi this morning, the newest resort designs don't just look good, they're doing good, as well. Supermodel and founder (and an R29 favorite), Liya Kebede employs weavers in Ethiopia, which allows the clothing to represent the country's native art form. The results are pieces that blend an African aesthetic with a modern, vibrant vibe. "We had been inspired by the stripes found on traditional hammam towels but we wanted to change them up and do them in new, unexpected colors," says Kebede. "The palette of this season was comprised of acid pastels, lilac, citron, and retro-feeling 1950s colors. We also added in some iridescent silvers, which is new for us."
Beautifully blending comfort and style, the Lemlem resort line gives us the kind of day-to-night transition pieces that are just so convenient for any sunny escape. Kebede reveals to MO, and us, that the Dehna Tunic in neon orange is her favorite: "I love its deep V-neckline, and the combination of neons mixed with silver along with the hand-twisted fringe on the edges feels fresh." And, personally, from the breezy maxi dresses to the lightweight scarves, we just as excited to get our hands on these ethically made, aesthetically pleasing pieces.
Luckily, our Lemlem excitement is not just lip service. Click head to preview all of the dreamy, exotic resort looks for the first time in their entirely. Then, start shopping all Kebede's designs today, only on Moda Operandi.
