4 Leather And Lace Outfits That Aren't Too "Material Girl"

The leather-and-lace combination has always had certain connotations (some more savory than others). But, we insist it's possible to wear these two classic, yet of-the-moment trends in tandem, without looking like Vivian Ward. And, to prove it, we've gone ahead and put together a quartet of ensembles that pump up the luxe texture while turning down the bawdy factor.
From an office-appropriate, leather skirt to a delicate lace dress that doesn't scream summer, these looks are practical, unexpected, and, okay, just sexy enough to wear on a date, too. These four must-try, leather-and-lace outfits will have them stopping and staring for all the right reasons outfit1
Lots of lace + chunky leather
A full lace dress can seem limiting in its almost-sugary sweetness. But don't let that throw you. Funk it up with an oversized leather vest (we're obsessed with this one!) and sneakers for a decidedly femin-edgy vibe.
Acne Memory Leather Biking Vest, $1,060, available at The Outnet; Forever 21 Shimmering Flower Bib Necklace, $10.80, available at Forever 21; Juicy Couture Dark Sapphire Winter Lace Dress, $355, available at Stylebop; Nike Sweet Classic High Women's Shoe, $90, available at Nike; Matt & Nat Blake Satchel, $90, available at Urban Outfitters.
A leather skirt...for the office?!
Yes, it can be done! We suggest switching out your boring, old pencil skirt for a leather one (either metallic or classic black) for a new look at workwear. Obviously, to keep both leather and lace in the look, make sure to layer smartly with a short-sleeve sweater to cover up and keep it fresh.
Rachel Roy Fabiola Heels, $229, available at Rachel Roy; T.Babaton Giles Sweater, $54.99, available at Aritzia; Romwe Hollow Buttoned White Shirt, $53.99, available at Romwe; Warby Parker Sinclair Glasses, $95, available at Warby Parker; Rebecca Minkoff Luciana Leather Skirt, $418.60, available at Shopbop.
The modest mini
A leather mini skirt and lace top is tough to keep in rotation, especially during the day. Yet, when the lace is on a sweatshirt, popping under an oversized jacket, and worn with some stand-out kicks, a short skirt seems perfectly transitional from day to night — just don't forget the tights!
Topshop Unlined Parka, $130, available at Topshop; DKNY Opaque Control Top Tights, $20, available at Bare Necessities; Tibi Sigrid Lace Sweatshirt, $425, available at Tibi; T by Alexander Wang Leather Skirt, $212.50, available at Net-a-Porter; Sandro Albatorock Sneakers, $600, available at Sandro.
The laced up rocker
It's not every day you can get away with leather and lace from morning to night. But with a muted blazer, conservative (but unexpected!) heels, and the right mix of pattern and shine, you won't think twice about the combination. We especially like the idea of a blown-up lace print with leather pants, as it makes the outfit appropriate for pretty much anything.
Helmut Lang Boxy Stage Blazer, $645, available at La Garconne; Lela Rose for Target Top, $20.99, available at Target; AllSaints Harrah Pipe Skinny Pant, $485, available at AllSaints; Alexis Bittar Siyabona Gold Cerulean Tear Earrings, $275, available at Alexis Bittar; ASOS Pressed Pointed High Heels, $96.75, available at ASOS.
