We Already Want Kimberly Taylor’s Spring Collection

Around this time every year—after our December holiday perma-hangover has finally worn off--we get the urge to feng shui our wardrobes, a bit of pre-spring cleaning, if you will. Out with the sequins, heavy velvet party dresses, and blinged-out jewels, and in with the fresh, new, light, and airy. Kimberly Taylor's spring '11 collection embodies the desire for aesthetic purity, sartorially speaking. A 25-year-old native Brooklynite and NYU grad—oh yeah, and former Alexander McQueen and Balenciaga intern—Taylor's designs are a pitch-perfect mix of edgy downtown-cool and minimalist-chic. We're not exactly surprised; outfitting stylish New Yorkers is a family affair—Taylor's dad was a partner at Century21 for years. For spring, Taylor used a soft yet effective color palette, replete with sea-foam green, dusty blue, and stark black-and-white, and contrasted it with a vivid, kaleidoscopic watercolor print that elevates several of the collection's dresses into serious standout territory. Though we're usually ones to pile on the accessories, the almost complete lack of accouterments, save the splashes of multicolored scarves tied delicately around the model's wrists, and a pair of dark shades here and there, complements the spare feel of the collection and heightens the impact of each piece. Yep, in this case, less really is more.
