This Is Our Jam: Katy B “Aaliyah (Feat. Jessie Ware)”

katy-b
London bass-and-beats newcomer Katy B has just released a great little (free) EP entitled Danger, featuring the likes of Diplo, Jacques Greene, Geeneus, and Zinc, with Iggy Azalea and Wiley throwing down vocals. The standout track, though, is an homage to Aaliyah that features another U.K. upstart, Jessie Ware, along for the ride.
"Aaliyah" has the two nicely in sync, with a light club beat that vaguely hints at the late, great R&B star's Timbaland productions. It's not so much a statement, as the two artists come together to pay subtle respect to someone they both owe a great debt of inspiration. Even so, it's probably best to take "Aaliyah" for what it is: a great pop song. Check out the whole EP, along with "Aaliyah," below.
