We recently got a clip of a video from Wigan Casino, a storied nightclub in Northern England that allegedly hosted not only lots of serious moves and soul music, but the most fantastic '70s style, too. For fall '11, Karen Walker drew inspiration from the bell-bottomed, break-dancing crowd, but her collection was anything but vintage. Soft chiffon floral dresses with just a hint of old-school mustard and mauve felt modern and romantic, while strips of black leather gave tailored coats and pleated skirts a little more attitude. This designer never shies away from haphazard pairings or pops of volume—she's all about confidence. And her signature extra wide-leg trousers matched with shrunken jackets and cool patterned sweaters played up the Karen Walker moves we love most.
