Just Opened: Rogan

Rogan_LargeSpread
Rogan founder and designer Rogan Gregory (who is also an accomplished sculptor and furniture craftsman), has made a name for himself over the past few years with his exquisite jeans, a throwback to the 1950s golden era of denim with their emphasis on function over superfluous embellishment. Last spring he made headlines by collaborating with U2 Nobel nominee Bono and Ali Hewson on the socially-conscious clothing company Edun. Now, as he opens his first flagship store in TriBeCa, known as the R Store, the demand for his casual-cool clothes for men and women has reached a fever pitch.
The R Store, designed entirely by Rogan, focuses on individualized service, but the emphasis in the store is collaboration—Kate Young presents Victorian mourning jewelry alongside knit shawls inspired by the texture of spiderwebs; Optos contributes rare books, and Dustin Horowitz is in charge of the shop's under-garments. A Litl Betr, Rogan's line of hand-tailored suits for men and women, nails the cool sophistication of the 1930s with their fitted suits fashioned from silk and linen, lined with silk brocade, and adorned with buttons made of black mother-of-pearl or ebony wood.

Among the highlights of Rogan's men's and women's collections are the wide hemlock pants for women, khaki pants for men, and sheer blouses that look perfect coupled with Rogan's simple, statement-making denim. The finishing touch is Rogan Objects, a line of industrial furniture made of flat bar steel with recyclyed woods, antique leathers, denim, and canvas. Nearly half the stock is only available at the R Store, but this is apt to change week to week as Rogan's latest discoveries find their way into the shop.
Rogan is located at 91 Franklin Street, (212) 680-1407; www.rogannyc.com
Rogan Gregory is known for his gold-star denim, and now with his newly opened R Store in TriBeCa, there's a space for his devotees to pay homage—and shop.
