Shortage Has Us Asking: Is a Summer Without Ice Cream Even Summer?

We’re pretty skeptical of the whole “the world will end in 2012” thing, but this news might have us thinking differently. After all, how can a universe with no ice cream continue to spin? Three of Good Humor’s classic treats (AKA the ones that make you the most excited upon hearing the ice cream truck jingle) - the Toasted Almond, Candy Center Crunch, and Chocolate Éclair - sold in record numbers because of the warm spring we had. This was all fine and dandy back in March, but now that it’s late June it means there’s not enough ice cream to go around. The creamy treats won’t be produced again until mid-summer.

Now, we’re waaaay past being able to count our age on our fingers, but that doesn’t mean we can't associate summer with sticky ice cream treats dripping down our chin. Sure, this might not be actual sob-worthy news. However, the idea of being unable to indulge in the nostalgia of a favorite seasonal pastime is heartbreaking in the same way as realizing you're too old for sleepaway camp. Suddenly we’re relating to Lana Del Ray’s “Summertime Sadness” jam far more than we ever thought possible. (MSN)
