After parting ways with Dior Homme in 2007, Hedi Slimane has pursued photography and has created some of the most gorgeous black and white portraits that are meditations on youth and beauty. And, like Tom Ford before him, he's making his first foray as a filmmaker. His first short film, commissioned by the YOOX-owned thecorner.com, is titled
I Love USA
, and is a commentary on Southern California youth, love, and creativity focusing on a couple of Los Angeles teenagers. Wolf, a Laurel Canyon resident and cello player who wears a wolf mask, appears side by side with Sidney, a blonde teenager from Venice Beach, who Hedi Slimane calls his ideal California girl. The moving images of these 15 year-olds are touching, playful, and also make us nostalgic for that ephemeral summer feeling. Of course, we want more of his films and can't wait to see a full-length feature from this fashion visionary—you better be watching, Hollywood.
