It's the news we've all been waiting for: San Francisco is finally getting a Uniqlo! But just don't hold your breath for its arrival. According to an article in
WWD
this morning, the Japanese brand, known for basics with a high-design twist, is in major "expansion mode." On the docket for the cult-followed company is a sportswear line designed by Lady Gaga's stylist and Mugler designer Nicola Formichetti–which just hit boutiques–and three huge new store openings for October (two in Manhattan, one in London). And, lucky for Bay Area minimalists, a San Francisco shop is also a part of the company's grand retail roll-out scheme; They're just waiting for a space to open up. "We want the best spaces, we’re willing to wait, and we take everything on a case-by-case basis,” says Nobuo Domae, an executive at Uniqlo's parent company. Other planned openings include flagships in Chicago and Los Angeles, and smaller shops in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut, plus hundreds of stores internationally. So, in summary: We're getting a Uniqlo!!! We just don't know when.
