London-based electronic musician Gold Panda draws from a capacious array of sounds, yet in his hands, disparate samples become a seamless landscape removed from geographic origin or context. With new single “Mountain,” the eclectic producer takes a droning Eastern melody which he then loops and reconstitutes over a stuttering, jangling beat. Resist the urge to pick apart the pieces and let it flow together as one soft, inscrutable whole; a really good pair of headphones is recommended.
