How To Look Fresh-Faced In The Winter

Jorji is a brand-new face in the world of modeling. A couple of weeks ago, she came to my home studio to shoot an editorial — it was only her second shoot, ever! It's always a little game on set: We start putting makeup on the girls, and then they start to look "like someone." But, in this case, as soon as I laid eyes on Jorji, I couldn't help but be stunned at how much she resembled Bianca Jagger! Then, once she stepped in front of the camera, she was giving face like it wasn't her first rodeo, like the girl's got swagger, like...well, you probably see where I'm going with this. Bianca is the perfect inspiration for right now — a slightly sculpted, minimal beauty look with a touch of warmth and the right amount of easy emphasis on the eyes. And, since it's winter, I chose a whole host of cream-based products to hydrate the skin and provide a pretty, dewy finish. Especially in this weather, it's important to start with a great moisturizer. I love using rosehip-seed oil — you can get some at Whole Foods. It regenerates the skin and kickstarts the dewy look. I applied a little bit of balm, and then started doing the makeup. To begin with an even canvas, I used a cream concealer around the eyes, tapping it into the skin with my fingers to blend. Then, I added shading. I love Tarte's contour stick — it's a pencil that comes in the perfect neutral tone, allowing me to sculpt the face. I applied it under the cheekbones, blending with my fingers, and then swept it over the eyelids, all the way up to her brows. After that, I popped Chanel's cream blush in Destiny onto the apples of her cheeks. This particular formula has a little bit of a powder effect after it sets, so it diffuses the light for luminosity and minimizes shine, which is great. Then, I added a cream bronzer by 100% Pure along the bottom lashline, which gave a nice, warm glow and definition without being too dramatic, like a black liner. We wanted to keep it natural-looking. At the end, I applied Chanel Rouge Coco Shine lipstick in Flirt, a sheer, pinky shade. You can always add a little bit more highlight to the tops of the cheekbones with a cream luminizer for more glow, but, as you can see here, Jorji looked glowing already!
