Later, Classic Suiting! Theory Turns Work Wear On Its Head

There's the classic, suiting pieces we've come to expect from Theory, and then there's the Theyskens designs that the brand's been creating for the past several years. But, with the debut of Theory's fall '14 collection on Monday — the first collection Olivier Theyskens did not design under his own name — things got all sorts of spun around. In a good way.
While the label has already established itself as one that masters chic, not stuffy, tailoring, Theyskens brought a different creative vision to the designs. He took all the original ideas of what suiting should be and turned it on its head. Collars were sharp atop button-down closures, but instead of oxford shirts they were part of midi-length, sheer-paneled frocks. And, while black blazers still prove to be the easiest shortcut to a polished ensemble, Theyskens imagined fall's version could ruffle on the bias, create a peplum with a belt, and take on leathery textures. Plus, we'll be daydreaming of one embellished blazer until autumn rolls around.
Make no mistake, this new, daring Theory lady has all the clean lines of the original, but this time she prefers not to walk the straight and narrow. We think we'll get along just fine.
