Maki Oh was founded by Nigerian designer Maki Osakwe in 2010, and has become known around the world for its fluid combination of African tradition and modern construction. Four years later, her label really took off when Osakwe was invited to the White House as one of First Lady Michelle Obama's favorite designers (she was the first and only Africa-based designer to be invited to the White House). Her pieces reflect her childhood in Lagos, with bold wax prints and patterns, and her commitment to having a 100% made-in-Nigeria line isn’t just commendable — it’s helping pave the way for aspiring African designers.
