On a quest for the next big thing in the food industry, sisters Danielle and Laura Kosann have begun the journey with The New Potato. Profiling chefs, restauranteurs, and celebrities alike with cuisine questionnaires, the world of dining has reached a whole new level of delish.
Josie Maran does it all, with a successful modeling career as well as an amazing cosmetics line, she’s one of those enviably productive tastemakers that we love. While we were hanging in Los Angeles, we stopped by the ever-so-popular Café Gratitude for smoothies and a shoot with Maran. What are we grateful for? Josie Maran photographing so well. We got the scoop on all her lifestyle tips, routines and splurges.
The New Potato: Describe your ideal food day.
Josie Maran: "A green juice for breakfast, a handful of roasted almonds, and a latte mid-morning. Thai curry for lunch, minus the Thai iced tea, which has too much caffeine, even for me! And for dinner, my favorite meal is one shared with family and friends. As long as the wine and conversation are great, the food will be too."
TNP: What would your last meal be?
"If I were trying to sound like a good role model, I’d say a kale salad. But, since I’m too honest for my own good, I’ll admit it would be pizza."
TNP: How do you start your day on a good note?
"Waking up to my gorgeous girls, Rumi and Indi, and my husband Ali, is an inspiring start to any day."
Can you describe your morning beauty routine?
"Argan Oil, GoGo Mascara, sometimes a swipe of Argan Love Your Lips lipstick and I’m ready to go."

TNP: What catches your eye on every menu?
"Anything from the ocean."
TNP: What’s your drink?
"My husband is seriously into learning about (and drinking) wine these days, and I’m going there with him."
TNP: What are your favorite places to travel to?
"My farm in Pennsylvania, especially when my family is waiting there for me. Before I had a husband and kids, my travel habits were far more exotic."
TNP: What won’t you travel without?
"My 100% Pure Argan Oil."
What are some of your healthy routines?
"I spend nearly as much time traveling as I do at my Los Angeles and Pennsylvania homes, so I don’t really have routines. My kids do, though, and I’m forced to brush my teeth so I don’t seem like a total hypocrite."
TNP: What ingredient do you consider overrated?
"Everything’s overrated when it’s trendy. I love what Michael Pollan had to say about eating more like our grandparents and great-grandparents did. There’s nothing overrated about a fresh ear of corn!"
TNP: What ingredient are you convinced makes everything better?
"Sea salt."
TNP: Your afternoon snack?

TNP: What’s always in your fridge?
"Watermelon. We all love it. My older daughter eats it right down to the rind."
TNP: Your go-to recipe for eating in?
"Homemade pizza. I took a pizza-making class and I insist on trying all my weird combinations out on my friends. Sometimes, I cut them a break and let them choose their own toppings."
TNP: Favorite night of the week, and why?
"Any night that I’m home with my family."
TNP: What are your favorite New York restaurants?
"I love sushi, and when it’s New York, it’s Sasabune. There’s a sign near the front door that says 'No California Roll. No Spicy Tuna.' That cracks me up."
TNP: If you could have a dinner party with five people, living or dead, who would they be and what would you cook?
"Diane Von Furstenberg, Eve Ensler, Ghandi, Lizzie Borden, and Joan of Arc. I’d cook a whole pig in the ground, Hawaii-style."
