This Is Our Jam: Toro Y Moi, Son Lux, & Arcade Fire With The Best Song Of The Year

Welcome to another installment of This Is Our Jam, where we round up our favorite tracks of the week for your listening pleasure. This week, indie powerhouse Arcade Fire returns, teaming up with LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy and David Bowie(!) for one of the best songs of the year. Then we have new tracks from Son Lux, a remix of Autre Ne Veut, and some smooth new sounds courtesy of Toro Y Moi. Further down the page, Cut Copy is back, Miguel serves up a new single, CHVRCHES gets remix treatment from Blood Diamonds, and Machinedrum supplies us with some moody bass music.
Arcade Fire
When we originally heard that James Murphy was producing the new Arcade Fire album, our minds raced with the possibilities. How much of Murphy's disco edge would bleed into the band's anthemic sound? As it turns out, the partnership is a perfect combination of talents and tastes. "Reflektor" is an expansive disco opus that exceeds expectations in every way. The fact that David Bowie singing backing vocals is just the cherry on top says it all.
Son Lux
"Lost It To Trying"
Son Lux has worked with everyone from experimental hip-hop artists to indie-rock mainstays. His new solo track is a sweeping piece of orchestral pop that has us excited to hear more from the producer.
Autre Ne Veut
"Play By Play (Jacques Greene Remix)”
Canadian producer Jacques Greene takes Autre Ne Veut's emotional R&B track and remakes it as a percolating dance-floor banger.
Toro Y Moi
Fresh off his new album, Anything In Return, Toro Y Moi has a new, tour-only 7" featuring the new song "Campo." Fans of the artist's chilled-out funk should be happy about this one.
Cut Copy
"Free Your Mind"
Cut Copy is a master of stadium-sized synth-pop, and "Free Your Mind" is a typically fantastic new track from the band. We can't wait to get our hands on its fourth LP of the same name.
"Can't Sleep 2gether"
R&B favorite Miguel is the latest to release a track via Adult Swim's Singles Series. "Can't Sleep 2gether" is a woozy piece of synth-pop with a darker edge.
"The Mother We Share (Blood Diamonds Remix)"
Blood Diamonds (a.k.a. Mike Tucker) adds his signature drum and bass haze to CHVRCHES' slick pop single "The Mother We Share." While we love the original's powerful vocals, this remix is certainly weirder and probably even better.
Mixing gloomy atmosphere, hypnotic vocals, and frenetic-yet-subtle percussion, Machinedrum shows once again that he's one of the best electronic producers out there. Beautiful stuff.
