Atten-tion! Meet The Softer Side Of Army Green

When it was announced that green was the Pantone color of the year, I'll admit I may have winced a little. True, they say that it's the color for gingers, but I had always felt that it clashed with my skin tone and that it was simply not for me. Fast-forward a handful of months and I find myself toying with the idea of a green blouse. After a few shopping excursions — and some trial-and-error — I finally found my match: army green.
I can't begin to tell you how long I've been searching for an oversized military-style jacket. I've either missed the boat when spotting one in the past or had trouble committing to the price tag. But, the stars have finally aligned, because I literally sprinted power-walked to grab this one when I saw it hanging on the racks at T.J.Maxx. It's just what I was looking for, and I got it for way less than I would've spent at a department store.
I love the way army green pairs with grays, nudes, and even hints of black. And, it might just be denim's best friend. Distressed denim and army green are like two peas in a pod if you ask me. The colors go all too perfectly together, and the play on textures adds an element of cool.

Aside from this jacket being my (new) favorite shade of green, it also has a drawstring just at the waist on the inner seam so you can pull it tight for a more fitted look, making it that much easier to pair with dresses and skirts. For a dash of cool, I added a Navajo Squash Blossom necklace made of silver and turquoise for a heady statement-making piece.

Like I said, this color is made to be worn with denim! For my second iteration of this color trend, I topped my green tee with a bracelet-length jacket from T.J.Maxx that fits all my requirements for the perfect fall sweater: fun texture, cozy, and a relaxed fit. And to boot, it's by one of my favorite designers.

The black writing on the tee lends itself to pair well with black accessories, giving me a reason to break out my killer boots and favorite slouchy bag. The subdued color palette of this outfit makes for easy wear — it's such a natural fit, I’ve been wearing it nonstop these days. If you're intimidated on wearing a color, try incorporating it in small ways with your shirts and jackets, like I did here. You never know, army green might just become your new BFF, too.
P.S. If you want to show off your own style, tag your T.J.Maxx find with #Maxxinista on Twitter or Instagram for a chance to win a $1,000 gift card. Find out more here.
