Why You Should Wear Eye Cream During The Day

I like to think that I’m aging gracefully, and, at 31, I’m certainly no old hag. But, I need to face the facts that my skin (along with my metabolism and hair thickness...) just isn't what it used to be. After a recent visit to the aesthetician, I found out that the skin around my eyes is exceptionally dry despite the fact that I've been very diligent with my nightly skin care regimen, never failing to slather on my Tarte eye cream.
Being borderline-obsessive appropriately concerned about this new skin development, I reached out to New York-based dermatologist Jody Levine, who told me something huge: Eye cream isn't just for bedtime, and is just as important to wear during the day as it is at night. Say what? "The daytime is when your skin is challenged by the outside stressors of the environment, so it's important to keep the skin moist, protected, and in a healthy state," she says.
Since the area around your eyes is the thinnest area of skin on your body — and therefore the most vulnerable to sun damage — sun protection around the eyes is extremely crucial. While your daily SPF 15 is fine for the rest of your face, Levine says you might want to look for an eye cream that has SPF built in. So, true to beauty junkie form, I searched high and low to find the best daytime eye cream in my humble opinion: Supergoop! SPF 37 Advanced Anti-Aging Eye Cream. It has SPF 37 to prevent any more premature photo-aging, and its peptides help repair existing damage. Plus, it also has mica, an ingredient that helps brighten your under-eye area to reduce dark circles.
Supergoop! Advanced Anti-Aging Eye Cream, $45, available at Sephora.
