How To Make Emerald Makeup Totally Wearable

Since this whole emerald beauty craze doesn't seem to be dying down anytime soon, I figured I would chime in and say that (A) I endorse the green trend wholeheartedly and (B) if you're scared to try it, don’t be! Just like any bold color, you can make it work in the real world with a few strategic placement strategies.
Tip 1: Wear bright liner only on the bottom. I like what the models at the Stella McCartney runway show had going on, and it's a good visual lesson to note. When you trace vivid liner only along your bottom lashline, you get just enough color to add a little extra somethin'-somethin' to your look, but people won't be able to see you coming from a mile away.
Tip 2: Add some color to your lashes. Since one of the first makeup products I ever experimented with was electric blue mascara (yes, I was an '80s kid), I have a soft spot for colorful formulas. I'll admit, a bright green shade is tricky, but it can really bring out the color of your eyes. The key is to tone it down. Layer it over black or brown mascara, just do the tips of your lashes, or swipe it on your bottom lashes only like you would with bold liner.
Tip 3: Pair bright eyeshadow with a neutral face. Emerald lids are a gorgeous look for a night out, but make sure to keep your cheeks and lips neutral. The eyeshadow should be the focal point (unless you're moonlighting as a glam rock singer, in which case, by all means go for it). For the rest of us, I recommend sticking to a sheer, natural-looking gloss and a touch of subdued blush.
Tip 4: Play with different nail options. Jewel-toned nails look so sophisticated, but if you want a more low-key manicure, apply your emerald lacquer only on the tips using a pointy eyeliner brush. Finish with a clear topcoat.
Now, who's ready to jump on the emerald makeup bandwagon? Or have you already been sporting green shades all over town, like me?
