The Best Makeup Tips We Scored At Backstage NYFW

For the last couple weeks, I've been running around in my Prada loafers with hundreds of other makeup artists, designers, and editors for the madness that's also known as Fashion Week. Each season more and more beauty bloggers are staking their claim backstage, capturing next season’s looks straight from the masters themselves — and I’ve been lucky to be one of them.
When cramped backstage, photogs make no qualms about elbowing you or running you over with their three lighting assistants whilst shooting Karlie Kloss having her faux bangs glued on. It’s taken me a while but through the years I've learned to fight for my shot. After years spent snapping Pat McGrath and Val Garland apply next season’s gel eyeliner at the perfect angle, I’ve gathered a few tips you'll want to know about, now.

Tip #1: Wet Wipes give lips great shine. If Pat McGrath does it, then I'm all for trying it out. If you're going for a glossy, stained lip, try applying lipstick in a deep shade, then blotting your mouth gently with a wet wipe. This will introduce a glossy sheen while eliminating the extra pigment.
Tip #2: Eyeliner is the new lipstick. For a '90s grunge throwback, makeup artists applied chocolate-hued liners on the models’ pouts for some seriously “My So-Called Life” throwback. Try introducing a non-glossy balm before you fill in your lips to help keep them hydrated.
Tip #3: Wake up your face with a glossy eye. Thanks to Alexandre Herchovitch, the glossy eye has become one of my favorite beauty looks. It illuminates your eyes, making you look awake. Start by applying foundation to your eyes as a base. Then layer on a non-sticky colored lip balm. I love using MAC Tendertones, but another great option is Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream. You can apply the glosses over your shadow to add dimension to your look.
The way I spend Fashion Week may be slightly less glamorous than The Devil Wears Prada, but it's well worth the end results: great photos and enough inspiration to fill a million blog posts — or, at least, to keep me going until it all begins again come February.
