Wang Is Really Into Himself (And We Are, Too)

Excuse us if we weren't clapping when Alexander Wang's army of models took their final walk yesterday evening. We assure you, it's not for lack of love of the collection. It's just that our hands were already occupied by our cameras, waiting to capture the detail shots on looks we'd fallen for, and we needed to capture it all.
In what was undoubtedly a pointed resurgence of name branding, the collection was laden with his surname, from elbow-length white leather gloves with perforated dots spelling W-A-N-G to pleated jumpers with the same four letters punched out at the waist. Chunky rubbery shoes held their own against the cool, boxy suit pieces and low-back frocks. A white mesh sweater read "Parental Advisory," while pajama sets were left open, baring navels. All this is to say that the white and black and grey (and pink and light blue) collection definitely had that signature swagger, that sought-after personality. (This is, as the designer himself pointed out, Wang, not Balenciaga.)
